Sunday Scribblings: Junk

So I've been practicing guitar all weekend. I just got reunited with my guitar after 5 years of not playing. It had been at my parent's house for all that time and I just recently got it restrung so that I can eventually sell it for help with my India and Philippines trip. Unfortunately, I'm not quite ready to give it up and I've been having so much fun playing all day. I'm building up my callouses and my fingers hurt and feel raw and sore, but it's worth it.

Today is my singleversary... My one year of being single and to celebrate, I've been playing a love song. :P Sortof. Alanis Morissette's "Head Over Feet". Alanis' debut album, Jagged Little Pill, was the first CD album I ever bought (at Costco!) in the 6th grade so she is an old time favorite of mine. This song is just superfun to sing and play.

Since I haven't played in five years, I'm not all that great yet, but I'm getting better each day! This video is probably junk because I mess up a couple times and I'm a perfectionist... And I'm not the best singer (though, certainly not the worst)... I wanted to share it anyway. Because music should be shared!

Next year, when I live in the Philippines, I plan to surround myself with music and I'm certain it won't be hard to find myself around guitars and play some tunes with the neighbors. I'd like to hopefully buy my own guitar in the Philippines. Cebu's own hand-made specialty guitars are some of the world's finest handcrafted guitars made from local tropical materials, and even the tropical fruit nangka (jackfruit)!

Moving to Cebu?! Whoa! My moms family lives there :)
I wish I knew how to play an instrument. My sis plays piano and my bro plays guitar, bass and drums. I am not so musically gifted I guess.

my video is much junkier than yours
(although I had to laugh when I read this. I sat down at the piano with a beautiful Irish song that I don't do justice to and then read yours!)

Beautiful job!

Great job! I've always wanted to play the guitar :)

Wow! What can I say? Chapeau!

That was really awsome. I love this album and I bought it as a casette in 1995, I listened to it over and over.. Loved all the songs. You bring back some fond memories of my teen years :) In 1996 I started to buy CDs and then came mp3s and nothing was same anymore. People started to make compilations and didn't bother to cherish albums. This song reminds me of that time. Thanks.

And happy anniversary :)

Ah... such a seminal album :)

She's from the North West too isn't she...?

It's amazing how similar the chord sequence is to Marley's No Woman No Cry...

You're good, Flo!

lora- haha, what a coincidence that we both posted music vlogs :D

for the love of pictures - you can learn!

MKL - i know! i would listen to a CD so thoroughly and now i just add to my itunes shuffle and don't even bother with much special attention to albums! it's kind of sad. i think i bought jagged little pill in 1996!

MJ - thanks, it was :)

sumit - oh it's a good song!

deeptesh - oh my sainted aunt!? you crack me up! and yea, not sure what was up with my random head turn.. no one was in the room. must be ADD :P

Great song choice, and I think you did really well! Especially for not picking a guitar up in years.

And for some reason, I couldn't stop myself from watching the whole video of you playing. Ha. It's so great to put voices and mannerisms with the blog, ya know? Thought I'd share that tidbit.
